Meaning
You may give a thousand excuses but I know his true colours. Calling him a thief to his mother is a waste as I know that he is the end that the vedas search for.
He played a simple trick by showing that he stole only a small ball of butter when we came to complain to his mother. Actually he had climbed on two wooden boards to hog all the butter but stands innocently before his mother combing his hair, even before the butter in his mouth dried up. And when we catch him in the act and bring him to show his mother, he steals our heart by throwing a mischievous glance at us and we look on helplessly.
